Melanie in India
This month we will welcome back our roving reporter in India, Mel where she has spent the last month studying with the Iyengar’s in Pune. She has sent us a few words and some photo’s she took at a celebration of Guruji’s 3rd Punyatithi which is the anniversary of his death.
” Abijahta presented an Iyengar class with her stories of being taught by Guruji. It was a living testimony of the great visionary man & teacher that he was for her.
She told the story of her coming to practice after a sleepless night with her first baby & thinking she would practice restful supine poses starting with supta baddha konasana. However when Guruji saw her he straight away had her practise rope backbends & inversions to wake her up.
Another time when she had graduated from college with high honours she was in ardha chandrasana & he came to her & hitting her back foot he said you need your brain to be here too ! She gave many other insights that brought his presence to all of us in the room.
It was a great privilege to be here at the RIMYI with the Iyengar family for this wonderful memorial to Guruji. To see & feel his teachings being passed on through all his students.
As Prashant has told us “yoga is for life & not away from it” We were all served a delicious Chewda afterwards. The monsoon was very heavy but I felt like singing & dancing in the rain ! “
